People expect that things will get easier once you have been declared cured. However, that is often not the case. I know from experience how difficult it is to pick up life after surviving a disease. Like many former patients, I also lost confidence in my own body and with that in myself. The alarm bells ring for me with every light touch. The disease has taken away the seemingly obvious feeling of being healthy.
To give others insight into the period after a disease, I designed a fragile organ so that people can literally and figuratively bear the fears of former patients. It visualises the mental consequences of a physical illness.
The vulnerable organ and the short film together form the 'Handle with Care' experience kit. The experience is intended to provide insight and start a conversation about the mental consequences of a physical illness.
