Creative Hub Rotterdam

Tue 9 May

Rotterdam is one of the most important cities in The Netherlands in terms of art, culture, entertainment and leisure. The leading New York Times and Rough Guide put Rotterdam in the top ten of must-visit cities. Affordable housing; a young creative multicultural population; and a no-nonsense mentality make Rotterdam a great place to live!

Rotterdam has several internationally renowned museums such as the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum, Het Nieuwe Instituut, Kunsthal Rotterdam, the Nederlands Fotomuseum, the V2_Institute for the Unstable Media and the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art. There are also several galleries that operate internationally and a remarkable amount of art and design initiatives in which our students and alumni are involved.

Countless events put Rotterdam on the international map. Art Rotterdam, the North Sea Jazz Festival, the World Port Days, Poetry International, the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), Motel Mozaïque and the Wereld van het Witte de With Kwartier are well-known examples. While studying here, you can take part in these events. Take for example the IFFR: Audiovisual Design students make short films for it, Advertising students do guerrilla actions in the city to attract more visitors, and Leisure Management students and Lifestyle students organise the festival closing party.

The WdKA collaborates extensively with cultural institutions and companies in the city. These include projects in which students, teachers and partners from the city jointly tackle social issues, but they could also be an internship agreement or other types of agreements.

As a last point, Rotterdam’s ‘urban culture’ is not only an important source of ideas during your studies, but is a source of inspiration and a workplace for many of our graduates.
