Publication: Repair or Redesign

Thu 17 Oct

You know that feeling when you’re staring at your wardrobe, thinking you have nothing to wear, and you just crave a fresh, new look? That's often when we rush out to buy something new. But did you know that research shows that we don’t wear about a third of the clothes we own? That means a lot of what we buy isn’t being worn as much as it should.

So, what if instead of buying something new, we made the most of what we already have? The most sustainable thing you can do is wear your clothes for longer. However, this is easier said than done.

On Thursday, October 10, during Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week at 'De Goot Beurstraverse in Rotterdam, Aldje van Meer (researcher and senior lecturer) and Meghan Clarke (artist and instructor at the Fabric Station) presented the poster publication, "Repair or Redesign." The goal is to help you discover hidden gems in your closet and encourage you to repair or redesign your wardrobe.

Aldje and Meghan explain: “We want to shift your perspective on used or old clothing—from waste to valuable materials you can redesign and reuse. The poster offers designer tips to guide you step by step in repairing or redesigning your clothes, breathing new life into forgotten items in your wardrobe.”
