Sunday July 14th Research Award Ceremonies

We invite you to enter our Graduation Show.

See, hear, and feel the questions that we as artists, designers and educators are asking ourselves.

As we reflect on the roles we play in this world, and the changes happening around us, we do not stand idly by. Instead, we keep reinventing ourselves, reinventing art, reinventing design. This process knows no end, only intervals and milestones.

The Graduation Show embodies our path of self-directed learning and the ability to cross existing boundaries: we dare you to explore new territories, create new horizons and acquire a variety of new skills.

By combining knowledge with imagination, by questioning established patterns and embracing the hybrid approach, we encourage tomorrow’s artistic and design practices to reveal themselves.

At this year's exhibition, you will meet art that is so much more than art; design that is so much more than design. You will find the works of artists, designers and educators who are ready to become pioneers.

Explore the unexpected with us.

Willem de Kooning Academy Bachelors

The world is changing fast – and so is the role of art and design. The WdKA has reinvented itself to adapt to these changes. This blurring and cross-fertilisation between majors reflect both the fast-changing world around us and the shifting role of art and design. Artists, designers and educators are trained within one of three future professional practices.

Willem de Kooning Academy Master

The Master Design is a two-year part-time course. It is centred on doing design research. This research seeks answers to self-defined design questions and combines methods of making, gaining in-depth knowledge and positioning. The language of instruction is Dutch.

Piet Zwart Institute Masters

The Piet Zwart Institute houses the international Master programmes of the Willem de Kooning Academy at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. PZI specialises in a combination of in-depth specialisation and interdisciplinary exchange within an intimate learning environment. The programmes all share an interest in the complex social, cultural and political underpinnings of each discipline.

Graduation Show 2018, Review

The Graduation Show 2018 was a great success! With around 6100 visitors in five days, the event will be remembered as an innovative, original and incredible showcase of graduation projects created by our talented Bachelor and Master students. Needless to say, the Graduation Show 2018 will stick not only in the memories of the graduates but also in the ones of the visitors and the team that had helped to organise this event. Read about the Opening Night here and the review of the full programme here.
