Beyond DADA and De Stijl Part II exhibition

from July 22nd till September 22nd, 2018

Would you like to discover something surprising? Something silly, striking and colourful? Put Drachten on your to-do list this summer. The city where the Dada movement was founded in 1916 and where the first manifesto of De Stijl and the De Ploeg artists’ collective appeared in 1917. Museum Dr8888 and the Van Doesburg-Rinsemahuis celebrate the legacy of Dada and De Stijl in many different ways in 2018.

The exhibition focuses attention on typography, re-use and humour showing, among others the works by Joseph Beuys, Marcel Broodthaers, Yoko Ono, Eduardo Paolozzi, Bruce Nauman, David Bade, Panamarenko and Wim T. Schippers. There are also two early drawings of the recently deceased artist Armando included in the show.

The Dada spirit is still alive and kicking

The exhibition "Beyond Dada and De Stijl Part II" displays a representative group of artists who have been inspired over the years by Dada artists, Kurt Schwitters, Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray among others. The emphasis is placed on the legacy of the historic Dada movement. Which artists are being inspired by Dada? The youngest generation is represented by the work of students of Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. Guest curator of this part of the exhibition is Renate Boere. The exhibition makes it clear that the Dada spirit is still alive and kicking.
