Be naïve, be determined and find someone fun to collaborate with!
Are you inspired by the same thing? Two peas in a pod or completely different?
Two peas in a pod is the best way to describe us! We know each other for sixteen years already. Ever since we met we have been walking the same path in studies, work and traveling. Of course we see things in our own way but together we can accomplish our plans better. And we share the sense of humor and ‘fears’ (like doing presentations or getting in front of a camera).
What is your favorite WdKA memory?
Working late at the wood workshop.
How did your collaboration start?
Our collaboration had started long before WdKA. We had met each other in a previous school and decided to travel together.
How did your collaboration become a success? Was it a long way full of hardships or did it ‘just happen’?
After having traveled the world together, we got the idea of starting a hostel. We have started studying interior design at the WdKA because our hearts were in it at the time. For five years we have studied spaces and explored China during our exchange. We wrote our thesis together: it was dedicated to planning community & flexible interiors. Later it became the concept for our hostel. After graduation we have started an office and we had a reason to get out of bed: let’s open our hostel! With a lot of determination and help of people around us we did manage. We worked our asses off and finally became the best hostel of the Netherlands this year.
Are you pioneers?
Not really! We are not doing anything that has never been done before. We just do it in our way, like everyone would have done it in his or her own way. But people seem to like ours.
What is the future of your profession in your opinion?
At the moment we are hostel bosses, but we made a decision to change the project we work on every five years. So next year we need to learn a new profession.
You never leave your house without…?
Our phones! The hostel could be on fire any moment.
